Course units
Unit 1: Understanding children's rights and safeguarding standards
This foundational module establishes core safeguarding knowledge by exploring personal beliefs, professional responsibilities, and international standards. Participants will examine different types of abuse, understand key safeguarding frameworks, and learn how schools function as protective environments for students.
Unit 2: The school as a protective environment
This module examines educational institutions' legal obligations and duty of care requirements for protecting children. Participants will develop practical knowledge to identify, implement, and evaluate safeguarding protocols while exploring real-world case studies that demonstrate how these responsibilities apply in educational settings.
Unit 3: Prevention and risk management
This module focuses on proactive safeguarding through prevention strategies and risk assessment. Participants will learn to identify potential risks before incidents occur, understand primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention approaches, and develop practical skills for managing safeguarding risks in educational environments.
Unit 4: Risk indicators
This module explores child and adolescent development to enhance safeguarding awareness. Unit 5: Responding to safeguarding concerns

Participants will learn to recognize and appropriately respond to indicators of abuse, understand the importance of confidentiality, and develop a framework for managing safeguarding concerns in educational settings.
